God Brings the Moral

God has always given us the opportunity to walk with Him, in His ways- which are Life or choose a lifestyle of death that ends in the destruction of the soul.

We often don’t think about how our thoughts -control our actions or how they help us to receive help and guidance from God or not. 

God is only a thought away but it’s amazing how far that empowering thought can be from us at times if we aren't including God in our thoughts.

Vinegar by itself does nothing in a bottle but put some baking soda in with it and watch that mixture overflow the confines of that bottle.  We are like that vinegar and God is like that baking soda- alone our thoughts stay stagnant but with God we grow past the confinements of our understanding.

King David wrote, “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You have anointed my head with oil; my cup overflows.  Surely goodness and loving-kindness will follow me all the days of my life, And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever…”
  

Jesus said, “He that believes in me, as the scriptures says, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.”

Ever felt on edge, wary, fickle, frail, frustrated, burdened?  I have….

At times we can be our worst enemy.

So for those times, I have asked God to help me write some things down to help me regain and stand in the balancing rhythm of God’s presence, bringing moral -“LIFE” to my soul.

Jesus said to love God with all your heart, all your soul and all your strength (ability) but the only way I have found to have this “ability” is to surrender my heart to God in all matters of life which fits well with the words from book Zechariah.

“It is not by force nor by strength, but my Spirit,” says the Lord of hosts.

In other words, “Let go…”

The Apostle Paul learned it’s not by one’s strength or sure determination but an acceptance of “ones weakness” that allows God’s power to rest upon them… “For my grace is sufficient.”
(Repeat sentence if it hasn't sunken in.)

As I reflected on these passages written by Paul, I have gotten a sense of freedom and a certain contentment- he didn’t try to wrestle everything but had God use what came as an opportunity for God to show himself stronger and brighter and mightier then the circumstance.

Paul was driven to practice the art of losing the part of “himself” that hindered him from experiencing the liberating fullness of Christ.  In Paul’s mind, the sacrifice and resurrection of Christ and the promises that came with those things could not be out done- so knowing this he surrendered his “hindering life” for Jesus’ sake.

Do you remember Jesus saying, "to find life one must lose it for his sake"?

I find this “losing” of ones self is a continuous thing- and I have found that the “tender responsive heart” is handicapped from God’s leading and greatness in our life when we close ranks on ourselves -by accepting schemes and ideas that tire, wear, mundane, burden, assume and think we are in some kind of control.  For WHERE is the renewing power of the Spirit of Christ going to work and move if the space God wants to use is already taken up by our own faulty understanding?

2 Corinthians says, “Casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalt itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.”
 

When we do this "we make room" to receive the necessary things from the Spirit to make the soul abound and overcome.

Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

In being reminded of our supernatural birth in Christ Jesus to now- it is vital that our created souls be continuously "yoked" to the Spirit.  For our souls were specifically created to experience a fulfilling life in the Spirit of God.

Colossians says, “Put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him.” 

We know the new self is created by the Spirit of God.  We need this engagement of the Holy Spirit daily or we may suffer a very shortsighted, drab existence, hindered not only by our understanding but whatever might come.  The things of life are no different then what anyone else goes through but it’s in WHO you and I focus in that gives moral to our soul.

With God- he helps us unfold and fold our thoughts in a godly manner.

Knowing Jesus’ Lordship over our lives gives us this settling affect in our soul- strengthening our inner man like tapping the weakening bubbles out of a substance.

In art school I often saw the havoc of air bubbles in ceramic pieces- causing vessels and pieces to shatter and crack in the firing process.

It is not different in us… God is the potter, he is the author and finisher of our faith- and he knows what “air bubbles’ to rid us of so we will make it through the firing process of this life.  Knowing this we look to Him to strengthen the inner man.

Psalms says, “Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.”

Galatians says, “Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.”

2 Peter says “As we know Jesus better, his divine power gives us everything we need to for living a godly life.  He has called us to receive his own glory and goodness!  And by that same mighty power, he has given us all of his rich and wonderful promises.  He has promised that you will escape the decadence all around you and caused by evil desires and that you will share in his divine nature.”

Doubt can even become evil for not addressed.  That is why it’s important not only to believe but ask God to help us overcome our doubt... so that the edginess, worry, fickle, frail, frustration and burden will not reign over our hearts but God who brings moral.

Like a commander bringing moral to his soldiers before battle… this is what Jesus wants to do for us daily.  That we may “not” go out in the world with some kind of dread but go out with cheer and vigor and hope!

“For if God is for us, who can be against us?”

Rolf U. Lovland wrote: “You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains; you raise me up, to walk on stormy seas; I am strong, when I am on your shoulders; you raise me up… to more then I can be.”

WHO can raise us to more then I can be?  GOD of course but how often do we fail to grasp this?

WHO builds you up?   ARE they the temporary things in life or GOD?     

The wick of “this” life is only so long… and what footprint will last in a world that will one day come to nothing?  Can you build upon something that will become nothing?

“Look! I am creating new heavens and a new earth, and no one will even think about the old ones anymore.” ISAIAH 65:17

“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone.” REVELATION 21:1

God wants to raise us up to more then we thought possible… in HIM!

Ever felt anxiety, depressed, oppressed, worried, fearful, inadequate, spiritually hungry and thirsty?  

WHERE was your focus? Was it on the temporary?  What mental theme “music” was playing in your day?  Who’s shoulders did you place that enormous weight or burden?  

Was the day being “colored in” by what you understand, perceived, judged, and even felt?  Where was the emphasis on?  Why the bias?  What tainted and grayed your skies?

WHO is the BUILDER?

“Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.
It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep. Psalm 127:1-2

Ever ask, “Where is that enormous immoveable foundation that my life is suppose to be standing on?”  Nothing has changed- God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow so why do I feel the way I do?  You look at the structure that surrounds you.  You have stacked every bail of hay and nailed every board and put stucco on the outside.   You even thatched the roof.   You did this!  But…. but why isn’t there more of this sense of accomplishment and pride in your work?  Why isn’t this any encouragement to you? Shouldn’t this boost your esteem?   It is then when your eyes fall to the trim along the floor you remember.  The trim is made of the purest gold.  It was the finest work in the entire the house.  It wasn’t you doing the work there but GOD doing this work through you.  It was a relationship and partnership with GOD that did this…   You stand and look a bit at all you have built.  A glowing smile then emerges on your face as you utter these words, “Yes, indeed it is time for some changes.  GOD will you help me?” 

Then as if there was no time to waste a curious wind comes…. It carries away the thatched roof and then simultaneously all four walls are taken away as well.  The only two things that are left is the foundation that he stood you upon when you came to Christ and the fine golden trim. 

Jesus, the architect of heaven and earth then comes.  He smiles and says, “Come let’s continue to build something lasting together.”

Is it a fortress? Is it a villa?  Is it high tower?  You never know unless you build with him….  But the more important question that needs to be seated firmly in our soul and consciousness is, “Is our life ours or HIS?”  Do we labor in vain thinking it’s ours?”

Anyone who builds on that foundation may use a variety of materials—gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay, or straw. But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value.  If the work survives, that builder will receive a reward. But if the work is burned up, the builder will suffer great loss. The builder will be saved, but like someone barely escaping through a wall of flames.  1 Corinthians 3:12-15

God the Creator does not grow tired and weary but we do.

“Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.” ISAIAH 40:28

Jesus said,  “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

REST FOR OUR SOULS IN THE EVERLASTING

Nothing is more “stabilizing” to our soul then our relationship with our everlasting GOD, JESUS CHRIST.  For the “things” of this life are only temporary but GOD is CONSTANT and FOREVER!

Rest for our soul comes when we “switch” yokes or understandings -realizing in whom we truly belong.  We stop yielding to our own understandings and what the world wants to oppress and impress upon us to yield to God’s Holy Spirit who wants us to realize and come to the “satisfying” reality in HIM. 

Our limited understanding and the world’s corruption constantly yanks us this way and that way by whatever comes and goes but by submitting to God there is no tide of in and out just peace.    

Temptations are those tides in the sea of understanding.  They are not just lusts of the flesh but also things that tempt us to fear, have anxiety, doubt, and give into oppression and peer pressure.  They are things that want to take God’s rightful seat in our hearts, minds, and souls.

James 1:6 speaks of this “... Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind.”   

But I believe these things meant for evil also help us- they secure what was weak -building a stronger taller wall.  They dig a deeper divide.  They cause us to put less emphasis on the things of this life and more on GOD.  They give us a stronger deeper confident resolve in GOD.      

So knowing this, we strive to let go and let God, we strive to put our trust in God over our own understandings and what is happening around us in the great hope of becoming all that God wants us to become…

I don’t know about you but I can be hard on myself.  I don’t know if it is deserved or undeserved but I do know this one thing…. free from me is good for me. 

The Spirit of GOD allows us to be free from our worst critic, our most harsh observer, and overbearing judge- ourselves.  He allows us to see how great God’s grace is and allows us to be empowered by that grace realizing where life is meant to be lived.              

People are constantly looking for the way, the truth and a life to be satisfied, to be fulfilled, to be free, to be healed, to be content, to be more then just a stuffed suitcase with no where to go.  They are looking to be more then they can be.

JESUS says point blank:  “I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through Me.” JOHN 14:6

JESUS was the one who created you and I.  So being made by HIM, how could we ever be satisfied without HIM?  How could we ever feel comforted and encouraged without HIM?  How could we ever feel secure without Him?  How could we be something more then we think of ourselves without Him?

I have asked this question (probably more then once), “What is the purpose of this life?”  And the answer I receive is, “To know God.”   I believe and know that without God we are just a bunch of souls wandering around in the dark and there is no point.  

BUT seeing that JESUS holds LIFE and IS LIFE itself really changes our perceptive on life.

LIFE was always supposed to be a RELATIONSHIP with GOD.   Life is a relationship with JESUS, the EVERLASTING God.

HOW DEAR TO YOU HOLD YOUR LIFE?

“But I do not consider my life in any account as dear to myself, so that I may finish my course and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify solemnly of the gospel of the grace of God.” ACTS 20:24

Sometimes we can hold our life with such a tight grip…  But if we realized whom really holds our life we might just find life more abundantly.

“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” John 10:10

The thief wants to convince us of what exactly?  Why doesn’t he want us to let go and let God?  Why doesn’t he want us pry our fingers loose from our life?  What does the thief, Satan, have to lose?  What greater confidence can we find in GOD if we do this? What ministry do we have to gain?    

Everyday it is a decision to let the SPIRIT have control or the FLESH.  It’s as if within ourselves we have a green meadow and before us a great horse.   The SPIRIT represents the great horse.  The SPIRIT is wild compared to our understanding but he was meant for us to ride.   It is our decision to either walk away or get on.  Hopefully everyday is a “ride” day for you.  But it seems that before we ride the wild stallion we sit and wait in the green lush grass.  The wild horse with no bridle or reigns then comes seeing our submitted way and we respectfully get on.  

Sometimes it’s a casual ride seeing and noticing things we had never seen/thought before, sometimes it’s experiencing to new heights, sometimes it’s riding behind a veil of deeper truths and sometimes it’s a ride in total abandonment.

“This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the Lord of hosts.”  Zachariah 4:6

IS GOD OUR INFLUENCER? 

Is life only good depending on what day it is, when the sun is shining, your health is good and you have money in your pockets to spend?   OR is life good because you know GOD is with you?  

2 Corinthians 12:10 says “For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities.  For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

The Apostle Paul was physically a prisoner because of his faith in Christ Jesus yet prison life and punishment and torture were just “symptoms” or “conditions of this life.  They weren’t who he was for he was a Child of GOD. 

What earthly temporary things do you allow to be influencers over your life focus- stopping you from being all that GOD wants to help you to be?  God wants us to realize the FULLNESS of life in HIM regardless of the circumstances.

What things do you allow to manipulate you?     

I had a friend die of an incurable form of cancer that slowly shut down her body yet while she was here she said, “life was good” not because of her circumstances but because she continually felt the reassuring presence of God despite all the painful difficulties.

We think life is in our circumstances or conditions but is it? 

May GOD help us abide in a trusting confident relationship in HIM that we may sail over crippling and debilitating understandings that make us feel less then how GOD sees us and created us to be.  

Psalm 18:18 says “They confronted me in the day of my calamity, but the LORD was my support.”

WE are GOD’s children if we have given our life to JESUS CHRIST.  The world loves to label people but as a child of GOD- circumstances, troubles and calamities can have no ownership over us.  Remember where your names are written and are registered. 

“But don't rejoice because evil spirits obey you; rejoice because your names are registered in heaven." LUKE 10:20

REVELATION 3:5 ”The one who is victorious will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out the name of that person from the book of life, but will acknowledge that name before my Father and his angels.

Our names may mean nothing in this world but they mean something where it matters most.

Reputation

“Listen!  It’s the voice of someone shouting, “Clear the way through the wilderness for the LORD!”  Make a straight highway through the wasteland for our God!  Fill in the valleys, level the mountains and hills, straighten the curves and smooth out the rough places.  Then the glory of the LORD will be revealed, and all the people will see it together.  The LORD has spoken!” Isaiah 40:3-5

How true it is of the human heart and mind.  The heart and mind can be a wilderness of things, thoughts, concerns, wants, needs, pains, and so on.  They can be a wasteland full of worry and useless thought.   They can be valleys of self-pity and selfishness.   They can have mountains and hills of hurt, failure and what we think and only see as “impossibility”.   They can have snaking roads that lead us on self-exploration and activity but in the end lead nowhere.   They can be full of rough spots that make life uncomfortable because of our unsettling outlook on life.   In fact it so rough that we only pay attention to the bad ride instead of what God might have for us.

Notice the words "can be".  They don't have to be.

The heart that never gives those things to the Lord to answer and heal will never reveal the glory of the LORD.

“Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” (Matthew 12:34)  What is in your heart?  What is in the heart of others around you?  You can tell what is affecting their heart by what they say.

The reputation we give to others about the LORD will be dependent on the level of dependence we have in the LORD.   The level of dependence we have in the LORD will gauge how much we love trust and reverent respect we have for the LORD.   A heart without love, trust and reverence for the Lord is without peace, hope assurance and is lost in a wilderness of it’s own making.  The life captive to such a heart has only set their affections on the things on the earth not on God above.  A heart that sets its affections only the things of this life isn’t receptive to receive from God.   A heart like this lives in the foolishness of the world and wonders why it is so easily crushed and harden by the things of this life.   May God help them…. Seriously.  I was once one of those people and only by God’s love and grace was I saved and I am empowered everyday not to go back to be one of those people.  God help them.  I feel for them.

“With the Lord’s authority let me say this: Live no longer as the ungodly do, for they are hopeless confused.   Their closed minds are full of darkness; they are far away from the life of God because they have shut their minds and hardened their hearts against him.  They don’t care anymore about right and wrong, and they have given themselves over to immoral ways.  Their lives are filled with all kinds of impurity and greed.” Ephesians 4:17-19

David writes the very words of God, in his thoughts, “How long, O you sons of men, will you turn my glory to shame?  How long will you love worthlessness and seek falsehood? Selah. But know that the LORD has set apart Himself him who is godly; The LORD will hear when I call him.  Be angry, and do not sin.  Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still.  Selah.  Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, And put your trust in the LORD.   There many who say, ‘Who will show us any good?’  Lord, life up the light of your countenance upon us.  You have put gladness in my heart, more then in the season that their grain and wine increased.   I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.”  Psalm 4:2-8

How long will people not turn to God to help them?  How long will people who call themselves Christian turn God’s glory to shame?

Let me warn you in humility:  Your actions matter.   They matter more then you know.

Our dependence on God has far greater affects then anyone really knows.   The tiniest actions good or bad affect others and how others perceive us as Christians and the LORD.   Think of the sigh or someone rolling their eyes- how is that looked at by others.  Think of a sincere smile and warm greetings that seeks nothing in return.  Just think of what happens with an encouraging word in amongst many discouraging words.

“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will reap.  For he who sows in the flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.” Galatians 6:7-8

“Do not stifle the Holy Spirit” 1 Thessalonians 5:19

Do not stifle the Holy Spirit by allowing the things of this life and world to take a higher position over God in your life.  God is to be highly respected and reverently feared.   Our actions should show something about who God is in our lives.  The only excuse we should have is “God is our excuse.”

“Set your affections on things above, not on things on the earth.” Colossians 3:2

“Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits at God’s right hand in place of honor and power.  Let heaven fill your thoughts.  Do not think only about things down here on earth.  For you died when Christ died, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God.  And when Christ, who is your real life is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory.”  Colossians 3:1-4

How does one make a highway for the LORD in their heart? I have to put myself aside everyday.  Some call this “picking up my cross or denying myself”. 

Some might say,  "Don't you feel like you are missing out?  Don't you feel like you don't have any control of your life?" 

"What am I missing out on?  In the end, is what I miss out on really matter in the end?  I could gain everything for selfish gain and leave nothing worth anything.   My faith would be worthless.  My legacy would mean nothing.   We must ask ourselves have we allowed God charge of our lives to make a difference in other people's lives?"  I throw pride and self ambition away to gain what God has to empower me to touch others for Him.   I want people to see God's influence, glory and reputation in my life.  Besides does anyone really have any control of their life?  Think about it....

Everyday I pray and give God whatever is heavy on my heart, (this allows God's spirit an open channel to flow) which aligns my heart and mind so I can receive what God wants me to receive for that day, hour, moment.    Often I spend several times throughout the day meditating, and studying and listening to what God is speaking to me and building upon in his word in my heart and understanding. 

I see my actions matter and I can’t take any of them for granted.    His Holy Spirit enriches my soul as I open myself to Him.  I hope you see that all your actions matter to God.    

I encourage you to spend time with God.  Free up your mind and heart- making a highway for God.  Spend time reading his word carefully.  Asking for more heartfelt insight and looking more deeply at what God’s word really means to make you live it out.  Continually seek the Lord throughout the day for direction and purpose.   And trust God and trust what God has said in his word.

“And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Colossians 3:17

Certainty - God isn’t about Religion

Last Monday I woke and I had no work to go to. Thoughts started to whisper and cast shadows of worth until the Holy Spirit reminded me that my worth was not in a job. I would be encouraged in this thought as God provided me another job.

The things of life have never given a person certainty to not fear, worry, dread, or have concern. Humanity has tried to lessen one’s anxiety through human means such as ignorance, lies, deceit, medication, word usage, by who one surrounds themselves, position, talent, possessions, who they marry, school or college they attend, investments, retirement plans, insurance, credit, their home, their car and all the way down to the house key in their pocket but those are weak certainties because they are all based on things that could be easily taken away or not honored. There is no certainty in any of them. The only certainty a person can have is God.

God is the one who gives us certainty.

Like the things of this world, religion never gave the certainty of hope in one’s salvation nor has it ever empowered a people to live the righteous godly lifestyle but a relationship with God has. For the relationship with God involves not just the mind but the heart and soul as well.

Earning Love and Justification.

Did your parents give you certainty of their love based on your accomplishments? Did you have to prove you were worth loving? If so I am sorry and I am here to tell you the Father of heaven in not like that. For He sent His Son, Jesus Christ to die on the cross for us because he saw worth in us not that we could earn his love or justification.

People try to justify themselves to God by their accomplishments and good deeds. You can’t justify yourself to God for God justifies those who live in the faith of Jesus Christ and His sacrifice. We can’t earn our justification from God but rather live in the justification He gives us. We clothe ourselves with Christ and His sacrifice in mind.

If you had loving parents but felt like you had to earn your parent’s love, you would alienate your parent’s love. Plus in your efforts to earn your parent’s love you would be burdened and driven by some non-existent standard that only made you a slave to that lie.

Same with God, we alienate God when we feel like we have to earn His love and our own salvation. We do not just alienate God but we lose our certainty and the power of God working in our life when we think such things. God made it possible for us to “enter” into His Love through His Son Jesus Christ. God shows His love everyday to us no matter if we realize it or not but only through Jesus Christ we can “enter” into the FREEDOM of His love and have certainty to live empowered by God’s love regardless of the human outlook of our circumstances and situations.

Starting in Galatians 5:2 it says, “Listen! I, Paul, tell you this: if you are counting on circumcision to make you right with God, then Christ cannot help you. I’ll say it again. If you are trying to find favor with God by being circumcised, you must obey all the regulations in the whole law of Moses. For if you are trying to make yourselves right with God by keeping the law, you have been cut off from Christ! You have fallen away from God’s grace. But we who live by the Spirit eagerly wait to receive everything promised to us who are right with God through faith. For when we place our faith in Christ Jesus, it makes no difference to God whether we are circumcised or not circumcised. What is important is faith expressing itself in love.”

Romans 4:5 says “But people are counted as righteous, not because of their work, but because of their faith in God who forgives sinners.”

Our deeds and work could never earn God’s love. To say that our deeds and work could earn God’s love is a lie and we are living in spiritual darkness. God’s love is a gift we must accept and receive daily to be set free and be empowered by God’s love and light.

1 John 1:5-7 “…. God is light and there is no darkness in him at all. So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness. We are not living in the truth. But if we are living in the light of God’s presence, just as Christ is, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, cleanses us from every sin.”

Love for God that is the amazing key to experiencing God’s love. Adore God, admire God, and hold Him high above all other thoughts. Remember all the good things He had done. Give Him praise for who He is and His unfailing and faithful love. Love your God with all your heart, mind and soul and He will do amazing things in your life because your mind, heart and soul are set upon Him – nothing else.

Surrendering ourselves to God’s love brings FREEDOM in Christ. He gives certainty in a very uncertain world.

Galatians 4:8 “Before you Gentiles knew God, you were slaves to so-called gods that do not even exist. And now that you have found God (or should I say, now that God has found you), why do you want to go back again to become slaves once more to weak and useless spiritual powers of this world? You are trying to find favor with God by what you do or don’t do on certain days or months or seasons or years. I fear for you. I am afraid that all my hard work for you was worth nothing. Dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to live as I do in freedom from these things, for I have become like you Gentiles were- free from the law."

Free yourselves from falsehood securities and what you think that makes you right with God. It is not what you do or your job or what you do and don’t do but your faith in Christ that makes you right with God.

For in Christ there is grace. Not through anything we may do but through Him and Him only. The only way to give grace is to receive grace. And the full measure or understanding of grace and its power only comes with living securely in God’s love. We must live in this real yet mysterious love that brings perfect peace to our soul.

You know the only way to give unconditional love and express unconditional love is to receive it from the LORD. In order to give love you must receive the healing, the new mindset that empowers us in the love from the only God above.

There in a consistent relationship with God, the fullness of God’s love empowers His certainty in our lives -a certainty the world cannot provide.

Jesus says, "I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don't be troubled or afraid. John 14:27

There is a difference between knowing of God and knowing God.

You can’t receive this peace and certainty unless you are “in” Christ. A believer will struggle when they waver back and forth in their certainty in God.

The people who put their certainty in the things of this world will lose their certainty because the things of this world will fail them. Even though the world may be showered by the love of God they cannot appreciate it for they are blind to it since they have put their certainty in the things of this world and not God Himself. They cannot be empowered by God and walk in His Grace and Love for God’s Holy Spirit is needed and the heart and mind need to be receptive to Him. Knowing God means you are surrendered and have invested both in your heart and mind to Jesus Christ who the Prince of Peace.

God wants to confirm His reality to us and empower us in His Son, JESUS CHRIST.

Religion only makes people slaves. Religion makes them lazy and out of touch with God. Comfortable in religion people forget about who God is. Religion only corrupts the soul.

God is not a God of mindless religious repetition or full of notions of God but He is the God who gives us the reality of Himself to those who love Him.

Through our humble and heartfelt surrender to His wondrous love we enter into His secret doorways and courtyards.

Through God’s love we are FREE and FREE from the laws of our mind -of trying to satisfy some impossible qualifications that only bring us down and burden us and throw us into some grudging rut. For only in God’s love do we live, break free, and fulfill the only law – the law of love. Love your God with all your heart, mind and soul and love your neighbor as yourself. (Matthew 22:37-39)

“Have you never heard or understood? Don’t you know that the LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the earth? He never grows faint or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding. He gives power to those who are tired and worn out; he offers strength to the weak. Even youths will become exhausted, young men will give up. But those who wait on the LORD will find new strength. They will fly high on wings like eagle. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:28-31

We all need to take time to wait and rest upon the LORD’s love. Let Him remind you of all He is and His unfailing and faithful love for you because there we find our CERTAINITY in HIM.

In Him and Him alone is our “Certainity”.

Pick up your Mat and Walk

Ever been oppressed? Oppressed to the point you feel disabled and handicapped spiritually? Ever feel this burdening presence that closes in on you? You sense its weight. You sense its tension on your body as if you are wrestling something invisible as you try to do what needs to be done throughout the day. It is a presence that just does not leave you alone.

Most often we wrestle this presence with our physical and mental strength and it doesn’t go so well because we are up against something spiritual. We need to use spiritual weapons when we are up against spiritual weaponry and foes.

You are saved by Jesus Christ and because you are saved by Jesus Christ you have the authority in Him. You have spiritual authority in Him. You have been set free from the law of sin, which so easily influences the physical and mental sides of us. The physical and mental sides are often manipulated causing us to lose peace and rest- we move into areas of unbelief (sometimes unknowingly) which is a sin.

This unbelief in sin causes us to become captives to our oppressors. We sit handicapped spiritually on our mat and feel sorry for ourselves because "everyone is able to get into the pool of Bethesda before we do when the waters are stirred up."

We grumble and complain serving the law of sin not realizing we are falling into the same trap as the Israelites who had left Egypt. Though they had been set free – their hearts sank back into their old ways and desires. And we know what happened to them….

However those with Joshua had a promise. Joshua had the promise from God and we also have the same promises through Jesus.

Do these sound familiar? “ I will be with you. I will not fail you or abandon you. Be strong and courageous. Do not turn away from God and you will be successful in everything you do. Meditate on the word day and night and obey it- only then will you succeed. I command you- be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. (Joshua 1:5-9)

Jesus told the man at the pool of Bethesda after he asked him, “Would you like to get well.”

The man complained but Jesus ignored the complaint at first and simply ordered, “Stand up, pick up your sleeping mat and walk!”

Instantly the man was healed. He rolled the mat and began walking. When Jesus found the man in the temple again… Jesus then addressed the man’s complaint with this. “Now you are well, so stop sinning or something even worse may happen to you. (John 5)

We are to strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily hinders our progress- we do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, on whom our faith depends from start to finish. Hebrews 12. Hebrews 4:14-16

Through the things we suffer we learn to be more obedient and dependent upon God- seeing our need for Him everyday of our lives. 

Unplug

Have you ever wondered if we got rid of all the clutter in our life – how much clearer we would see life?

Life for many people has become a juggling act between clutter and the things that matter. Unfortunately the things that matter either get short handed or over looked.

Just think about how much we are informed about things going on in other countries but aren’t aware of the things going on right in our own neighborhood or even our homes.

I believe God puts us in physical places to make a difference in our own community, which in turn often enriches our life but because we are so plugged into other things in life we miss the opportunities God has provided for us.

Think about the things you are plugged into in this life. Facebook, twitter, texting, bebo- not to mention those magazines and gossips columns on Hollywood next to the grocery check out. Hollywood. Is Hollywood your life? Really? How many hours do you spend on Facebook, bebo, twitter, ipad device, video games and texting? Are you ignoring the people in your own home? What are you wrapping your thoughts in and around?

I understand we all needs some down time to VEG but when the down time becomes hours and instead of 60 minutes that is problem.

Sometimes I imagine the white canvas before Jackson Pollock splattered paint all over it. Our life is a white canvas for us to create but we allow the Jackson Pollocks of the media and tech world to take up our white space until there is no place for us to paint.

When this life is over are you going to say to yourself I wish I spent more time watching TV and on twitter? I wish I heard more negatives before that stranger I don’t even know says, “Have a good day or night”… really?

I think there is enough drama in our lives already that we don’t have to look for more to fill our life- Am I right?

Are your hands being helpful hands? Are your feet being helpful feet? Are your thoughts and words constructive and hopeful or do they tear down -both you and the people that surround you?

How would you live your life today if it was your last day on earth?

Defrag the mind. Unplug. Today is a new canvas God has put in front of you for you to paint on.

Psa 118:24 This is the day the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.

The War Ain’t Over Yet.

Like most Christians I sometimes I do and sometimes don't know why things "happen" like they do.

It is was pretty clear that these attacks which were constant and heavy were from the devil himself. And from speaking to just the circle of friends I am not the only one who has gotten a fair share of "beatings" in recent weeks.

They too have been tired, worn out and heavy laden lately by these bombardments of evil tactics. I seriously began to wonder if I needed to go away for a while.

Thanks God I am back on the saddle again after this very trying time. The whole meaning of "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" has been given a stronger and deeper meaning.

Here is a poem I wrote to reflect back on this time. I called, "The War Ain't Over Yet."

The War Ain’t Over Yet.

Battered and bruised and punched in the gut.

The war ain’t over yet.

At least he gave me a sense of humor to fill my cup.

I climbed back onto the saddle somehow.

A strong dose of humility fills my veins now.

Gave Christ the reins because they are certainly better then chains and one more ounce of disappointment.

Still finding the third time ain’t the charm - as things get done but under my expectation.

The angels seem to be winning now as I seem to be no longer feeling like a branded cow.

Is this the season or is there another reason?

A chuckle or two relieves the glue.

Thank God for friends like you.

Is it I or is life a mess?

I saw the strings in the tactics he flung and worn out- could do nothin.

Like a kicked dog , it more then stung.

I did more weeping and kneeling as I was in that pancake press.

I was reminded of all your beautiful things but all poured out - nothing more came from the personal spout.

I was told to not lose hope but honestly I was at the end of my rope.

Hanging on as I bled something snapped as I read, holding God accountable to what he said.

To the weary and the weak- will be given new strength.

I closed my eyes for the night and by morning had been given flight. Though the thorns and thistles were still visible I was not standing against a life so invincible.

Pardon me if I don’t seem to be myself yet - my heart seems more protected upon my creator’s shelf. Sometimes it best to have a healthy disconnect.

For when Christ says the word, that worm will pay his debt.

Isaiah 40:29-31 "He gives power to those who are tired and worn out; he offers strength to the weak. Even youths will become exhausted, and young men will give up. But those who wait on the Lord will find new strength. They will fly on the wings of eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint."

Being Constructive.

As I was working yesterday, the live oaks were losing their leaves like a ticker tape parade in the brisk wind. The leaves were then racked in the breeze to all these low areas and ditches where they made these golden mounds which if not taken care of will turn to temporary breeding grounds for blood sucking mosquitoes.

We have to be careful not to dig ditches for ourselves when the concerns of life blow from the trees in our life. We have to make sure they don’t become like cherished gold. We must be constructive in taking care of the leaf litter in life or else it can turn into fear and fear only breeds life sucking mosquitoes. Mosquito bites torment us to scratch -and if we scratch-they cannot just scare us but those around us.

Think about what we do when we fret. Some of us withdraw, some of us become irritable, some of us become sick, some of us become depressed, some of us become angry, some of us become annoyed, some of become disillusioned, unproductive, preoccupied and if we don’t watch what we say and do, we can accidentally scare others. We can’t take back what we have regretfully done. It’s out there and we can apologize but like a nail that is taken out of a piece of wood- it still leaves a mark.

We need to try to see with God’s help that the concerns and testings in life are to build us up in the Lord not tear us down. They are to help us realign and strengthen our focus on God

God is building us into a spiritual house and like building a house there are issues that arise because of the human understanding and mindsets. God has the building plans but because of a lack of focus on Him -the construction project can be held up and can cause more hassles and breed things like moldy doubt and rot of faith.

“We have nothing to fear but fear itself,” Martin Luther King

“The LORD is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” Psalm 118:6

Fear is the absence of faith.

“So, you see, it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that there is a God and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him,” Hebrews 11:6

We have to ask ourselves when fears want to take roost do we sincerely seek God?

Jesus said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke fits perfectly, and the burden I give you is light." Matthew 11:28-30

We are pretty useless to do anything positive when we carry heavy burdens- real or ones that have not yet come to light.

To further this thought, God tells us everything not done in love is worthless and even a sin.

“Be on guard. Stand true to what you believe. Be courageous. Be strong. And everything you do must be done with love.” 1 Corinthians 16:13

“Do not fear anything except the LORD Almighty. He alone is the Holy One. If you fear him, you need fear nothing else.” Isaiah 8:13

I find the causes of fear are sometimes unfounded and most often temporary and if we had given them over to God they wouldn’t had caused us grief. The leaves just like issues will fall in our life but we have to decide if we are going to dig ditches for those issues, which will grow into fears or go to the high ground. The choice is ours to make.

May the Lord help and remind us of this fact before we become ditch diggers, in Jesus Name Amen.

Elusively Suppressed

EVER had a problem you just couldn’t put your finger on? A bombardment of issues sits in front and all around you but the one that makes them all irritating is an elusive one. It’s vague, obscure, and indescribable yet it entangles you. It causes you to stumble. Normally those other stacks of irritations wouldn’t bother you but lately they have been particularly difficult, vexing and maddening and you have been helpless, powerless and unrestrained to act effectively. You notice the effects particularly in your impatience and out bursts of anger. You feel filthy, incompetent and useless and guilty because a Christian shouldn’t have those types of thoughts or feel or act the way you have been living sporadically. If you didn't know any better you would think you have gone back to living your old ways but your faith in Jesus Christ causes you to hang on, to continue to take that step forward instead of backward.

Seeing the issue as elusive, you don’t put much effort into looking for it because if you did somehow find it you would wonder if you even recognized as the elusive issue. This period of time feels like no valley you have been in before. Your Godly advice to others goes void or silent and you withdraw from anything that might present some kind of conflict or challenge. The bible is hard to even pick up and read but you run your hands over the pages anyway to see what you might find. In appearance it looks like depression but you don’t feel depressed just hardened. The cup of life seems only to have a few drops of water and it clear by the hard water stain where the water used to be. Thirsty? Not you... you feel as though you might as well just lay on your back and look at the sun and circling vultures.

You think about the fruits of the Spirit and the aspects of Godly love and wonder what’s nibbling on your root system in this strange place. It doesn't matter if the things are old or new in your life- just the dust is bothersome enough. You wonder how Holy Spirit can live in you and allow these darkened tinges.

Burdened but burdened by what? Wrestling but wrestling with what? How can you wrestle something you can't even see? It could be anything…. small or big. Some of the smallest things set you off and other things just knock against your soul as if you were standing in a hallow metal chimney-stack.

Sooner or later you will be confronted by those close to you. They will ask things like “Are you okay? or "You don't seem like yourself?" You will have to make a choice of becoming prideful and saying nothing or humbling yourself and admitting something IS bothering you.

I suggest you confide your frustrations, haunts and horrors of war with those Christians you trust. Those whom have noticed this obvious change. Know they are only a sounding board- not the solution. Ask for prayer and realize in order to receive peace and reprieve you have to accept them from God. Realize that having "dismay" in your life is a choice. Continue to submit and call on God’s wonderful mercy and powerful grace. Realize there are tunnels in life that are just dark by nature and God is the best one to carry us through them.

“Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. If you do this, you will experience God's peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. And now, dear brothers and sisters, let me say one more thing as I close this letter. Fix your thoughts on what is true and honorable and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned from me and heard from me and saw me doing, and the God of peace will be with you. Peace to all who place themselves in his hands.” Philippians 4:6-9

Issues will come and go but realize everything good happens in his timing but we just have to allow God to do his job.

Depression

Depression can be very enabling emotion for anyone. It seems to quickly work from the mind to the rest of the body. It can cause blood flow to slow down, headaches, back pain, muscle aches, joint pain, chest pain, digestive problems, exhaustion, fatigue, sleeping problems, change in appetite and weight and no doubt dizziness or lightheadedness.

Emotionally it can cause difficulty in concentrating, remembering details, making decisions, feeling hopeless and/or pessimistic. An individual can feel guilt, worthless, helpless, irritable, restless, sad, anxious, suicidal and having that “empty” feeling.

Depression has also been well documented in the bible and by Christian writers and figures.

Depression is a spiritual battle. It starts in the mind -in our thought process. And just like fighting the thoughts of condemnation, pride, lust, hate, revenge, jealousy, etc, we have to make a strong effort to redirect our thinking when it comes to depression. We have to realize our joy, peace and love does not come from others or ourselves but from God. God is our source of our strength to battle depression.

Psalm 42:5 “Why am I discouraged? Why so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again- my Savior and my God!”

Isaiah 50:10 “ Who among you fears the LORD and obeys his servant? If you are walking in darkness, without a ray of light, trust in the LORD and rely on your God. But watch out, you who live in your own light and warm yourselves by your own fires. This is the reward you will receive from me: You will soon lie down in great torment.”

In depression we warm ourselves in destructive ways and thoughts. And if you don’t think so -think about where our heart goes when we are depressed? What are we choosing to treasure when we are depressed? Where are our eyes?

When my step dad passed away this last summer I suffered from a bout of depression when I returned home. The Lord helped me take care of my dying step-dad in his home and take care of things that needed to be done after his passing but after I returned home, images and certain smells bothered me... and as I began to process everything that had happened during those previous weeks I began to consider everything as meaningless and no point. Waves of sadness would come and go and then I would feel “empty” void of all emotion. The Lord had shown me some great things during those previous weeks but I had been so overwhelmed by depression that I had momentary forgotten those things.

I had allowed depression to take a seat and blur my focus and I had to make a choice to allow depression to be welcomed or not. I had a choice to remember all the good things about my step-dad’s life or the holocaustic condition his body was ravaged in… and how stiff his tent became after the angel grabbed him by the armpits and took his soul to heaven.

Focus is where it “all” starts. The scientific word is “cognitive restructuring which leads to a behavioral change. God knew this and shared this with Paul who wrote:

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he had done. If you do this, you will experience God’s peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Jesus Christ. And now, dear brothers and sisters, let me say one more thing as I close this letter. Fix your thoughts on what is true and honorable and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned from me and heard from me and saw me doing, and the God of peace will be with you.” Philippians 4:6-9

This positive peaceful focus will not just motive us in Godly ways but change our physical habits as well.

We will want to participate in more pleasurable experiences such as working with others in a building project, volunteering, enjoying the wonderful outdoors on foot or bike, playing sports, creating something, traveling, and spending more quality time with loved ones.

Remember focus is where it “all” starts.
